Plenary Sessions

THE NONES, GENERATION Z, AND THE NEW POST-CHRISTIAN WORLD

The rise of the nones has produced the first post-Christian generation in American history, “Generation Z,” which is also the largest generation of our day. In this session, James Emery White - author of Rise of the Nones and Meet Generation Z - will update the most bleeding-edge trends related to the nones, lay-out the most important marks of Generation Z, and offer three critical approaches to reaching them for Christ. These three approaches have helped Mecklenburg Community Church (Meck) become a church of 10,000 active attenders.

APOLOGETICS IN A POST-TRUTH WORLD

Oxford Dictionary’s 2016 word of the year was “post-truth.” What does that mean for our culture, and specifically, for making a case for the truth of the Christian faith? Dr. White will explore the nature of today’s “truthiness” and how a new cultural bridge might be built through such things as ghosts and Galileo, neo-atheists and cynics – cultural bridges that continue to help Meck achieve over 70 percent of its annual growth through the previously unchurched.

THE TRENDS WE’LL BE TALKING ABOUT IN 2020

Pulling from his wide reading and analysis, observation and cultural engagement, James Emery White will offer a set of trends that may prove to be the future challenges of the church, including such thought-provoking developments as the “neo-medieval” and the “daily me.” But don’t think this is attempting to “guess” at the future – each trend is already taking root, and this session will tell you where and how.
